Project Description

Olives and olive leaf (Olea europea)

Love the abundance of olive trees growing here in Greece despite the hot dry weather. Some of the olive trees are hundreds of years old, with one particular one in Vouves said to be over 3000 years old.
They give Crete its much needed green at the end of the summer.
🍃Olives and extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) May contribute to the longevity and health of the Mediterranean’s.
Medicinal uses of olive leaf are as a ‘Hypotensive’ so it can help reduce high blood pressure and may help ease angina pectoris.
It is also a great antioxidant so helpful to keep the general toxins down.
🍃Despite what we are told in online advertising, olive leaf extract has no particular clinical evidence as having direct effects on the immune system although it is an excellent bitter tonic for the body.
🍃There have been studies to show olive leaf polyphenols are anti inflammatory and may reduce cancer cells in vitro and in animal studies.
Hopefully some human clinical studies will solidify this evidence very soon, since populations on a Mediterranean diet do tend to have lower cancer prevalences.
🍃The olive oils are an excellent source of Omega 9 essential fatty acids and best used raw as an ‘extra virgin’ cold pressed oil.
This oil remains quite stable, (unlike toxic canola oil) upon heating, though will loose its nutrients.
