Project Description

Pomegranate (Punica granatum)

So great to have fresh pomegranate juices here in Sicily around the local streets.

There are many proven clinical studies showing the benefits of this wonder fruit.

Upon research I noticed over 4000 pub med articles on the benefits of pomegranate.

Recent studies show clinical evidence of reducing blood pressure and cholesterol (1)

Pomegranates are used in herbal medicine as an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-parasitic and anti-bacterial remedy and has many other helpful actions such as cancer preventative (2) as well as for the treatment of cancer (3).

The plant is trees and the seeds or arils are the edible medicine as well as the peel which is high in antioxidants. The whole fruit is full of minerals potassium, iron,  calcium, phosphorus and selenium, vitamins A, B, C and K and fibre. This fruit is a great choice for detox juicing.

The medicinal chemicals are Punicic acid (a good fatty acid) and Punicalagins.

This fruit may be used not only to help lower high blood pressure and chlesterol but reduce heart disease, ease arthritis, help clear parasites and combat some bacterial and fungal infections.

Recent studies in mice even show it may be useful to protect against Alzheimer’s.
